Updates for Azure Red Hat OpenShift in August 2023

Azure Red Hat OpenShift offers fully managed and highly available OpenShift clusters, jointly operated by Microsoft and Red Hat. This month’s update focuses on security and cost management, bringing the following enhancements:

  1. DoD Impact Level 4 (IL4) certification: Azure Red Hat OpenShift is now officially certified for DoD IL4 compliance. This certification allows the storage, processing, and transmission of controlled unclassified information (CIU) related to military or contingency operations. If you are an Azure Government customer, you can rest assured that the platform meets high-security standards, ensuring hybrid cloud readiness, rapid agility, and excellent availability.
  2. No OpenShift subscription fee for infrastructure nodes: With the latest update, you can now deploy infrastructure nodes without incurring an OpenShift subscription fee. This flexibility allows you to use non-worker nodes for hosting cluster operation workloads, streamlining your cost management.
  3. Private clusters without public IP: Enhancing overall cluster security, private clusters can now be deployed in UDR mode without a public IP. This eliminates any exposure of public IP to your clusters, bolstering the protection of your environment.
